Hazelnuts are great to keep on hand – you can use them in dishes as diverse as pasta, muffins, roasts or fruit crumble. But did you know the fresher they are, the better they taste? And where you keep them makes all the difference.

According to the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council, “Nuts are best stored out of direct light and heat therefore, it is essential to find a cool, dark place to store them.” So in the pantry is a great start. An airtight container also helps.

But out best tip is to keep hazelnuts in the fridge or the freezer. This helps them to maintain maximum freshness – they can stay in top condition in a resealable bag or container in the freezer for up to 12 months.
